Saving Space the Smart Way (weekly finds – Week 2)

This week I read the article :  How to save space in your small apartment.

This article inspired me to start saving space in my own apartment.  Because let’s face it, everybody could use some more space in their living space, no matter how big or small the space.  So I started researching some space saving tips on Pinterest.  What I fount blew me away.  Not only are there thousands of DIY ideas.  But I also found some cleverly designed furniture that helps with saving space and clever storage ideas.  So with that, I decided to do a 2part post.  This week I will be sharing my DIY space saving finds, and next week I will share my SPACE-SAVING-FURNITURE finds.

Have fun saving space!

I have a bit of a confession to make: beards make me weak in the knees. There’s just something about a little facial hair that gets me every time.  From my perspective, any dude that has a beard is infinitely more attractive than a man without.  And for the past few years, it has seemed as if every guy—famous or otherwise—has grown a beard.

Very recently, after years of nagging, my husband has upgraded his beard status from goatee to full beard.  This gave me a reason to celebrate the occasion.  Therefore today I will be posting beard pictures in celebration of my husband’s manly beard.

Thanks, Babes!!

Why I stopped wearing high heels.

The perfect, pointy pair of heels can make any outfit, but with this style comes much suffering. High heels have the stigma of being bad for health and comfort, but this barely stops women from wearing them occasionally and often daily.
I personally decided to stop wearing heels approximately 3 years ago. The only reason I stopped wearing heels was simple, I get foot pain after only an hour of wearing heels.  So I made the decision to not wear a pair of stiletto’s every day.  Please don’t get me wrong. I love a stunning pair of heels. And I still own a decent amount of heels, but the only time I step out in a pair would be for really special occasions.
If you have ever worn stilettos, you know how painful they can be.    But have you ever thought how high heels impact your body beyond just making you wanna sit down? Here’s how they affect different parts of your body—and why that’s something you might not want to stand for anymore:

So in future,  maybe consider either alternating your footwear by wearing flats every other day or if you are brave enough… kick the heel to the curb permanently.

A letter to my husband

Today I don’t want to rant and rave about my infertility.  I don’t want to write about people who annoy me with pointless “advice” I don’t want to get jealous when I see another pregnant woman.  I just want to take a break.  I want to take a break from the madness, to take the opportunity to thank my Husband.

Baby, I know we have been through a lot. And  I know it hasn’t always been easy.  We have dealt with a lot of pain. You see me break down every month when we find out yet again that we are not having a baby.  You are so strong.  Some days I think you are strong for both of us.  I want to thank you for all your support and understanding.  Thank you for assuring me that our infertility journey will not break our marriage, but rather this will make us stronger.

We have always believed in each other.  I want to thank you for making me feel like a beautiful wife.  Thank you for believing in me.   You pick me up and assure me that we will get through this.  You hold me on those days when I’m too tired and too worn out to fight this battle.

I know I am not the stronger, calmer, relaxed and more patient one, That is why I want to thank you.  I know that your desire to have children is just as strong as mine, you just don’t show it like I do.  And honestly?  I’m thankful you don’t.  Because on the days I consider losing my faith, you are there.  You are there when I am scared and vulnerable, even in your silence you are always there.

I can’t tell you enough how much I love you and how thankful I am that God gave me someone who can when I can’t.  You truly are my rock and I wouldn’t want anyone else to share my life with.

Home made Naan

The first time I tasted Naan I knew I needed to find a recipe to make my own.
Today I share my recipe with you.  This is the easiest homemade Indian Naan recipe  that you can make in a pan. Fluffy and soft that tastes like in the Indian restaurants.

1 teaspoon sugar
1  cup warm water
1 Packet active dry yeast
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon oil
Some oil, for greasing the skillet
3 tablespoons melted salted butter

In a small bowl, add the sugar, warm water, and yeast together. Stir to combine well. The yeast should be activated when it becomes foamy, about 5 minutes. Transfer the flour to a flat surface and make a well in the middle. Add the yeast mixture and oil, knead the dough until the surface becomes smooth and shiny, about 10 minutes. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place. The dough should double in size, about 1 hour.

Divide the dough into 8 to 10 equal portions. (Depending on size) Roll the dough in a circle using a rolling spin.Heat up a cast-iron pan over high heat and lightly grease the surface with some oil to avoid the dough from sticking to the pan. Place the dough on the pan. When it puffs up and bubbles, flip it over and cook the other side. Repeat the same until all dough are done.

Brush the naan with the melted butter, serve warm.

Welcome to Weekly Finds!!!

I’ve seen a lot of “weekly finds” surfacing around the internet recently so I’ve decided to give it a shot myself. As you all should know by now, I spend a lot of time on Pinterest. I pin anything and everything. A lot of times I find some pretty cool things on there even if I have to say so myself! But my finds wont be limited to Pinterest, I will also include You-tube videos, blogs and articles. With that being said…Welcome to the very first Weekly Finds!

With only a few months left till Halloween, I obviously have been spending a lot of time researching my costume. But I always get distracted, and end up pinning a whole lot of insanely amazing Halloween Pins.

So this week I will be sharing some of the best Halloween stuff I saw on Pinterest.

Hope you enjoyed the very first weekly finds.

New York-New York (My dream vacation)

I have always had this desire to go to New York.  People always ask my why.  My answer is easy.  I don’t want to go to a beach vacation and just lie around getting a tan.  I want to experience New York fashion, shopping, cuisine, the art, and especially the architecture.  New York has so much to offer. For shopping, my choice would be Fifth Avenue even if I just get to window shop.  Next on my list would be the New York botanical garden, Central Park and obviously Central Park Zoo.  I want to walk the Brooklyn Bridge, and visit the Empire state building, and lets not forget The Statue of Liberty.

Then I would like to visit Times Square, and I think If I could do this on New Year it would be even better.  Drink some Starbucks and  I would like to tour the Mast Brothers Chocolate Factory.  I would indulge in the food, from Guy Fieri’s restaurant (Guy’s American Kitchen & Bar) to the local street food.

So where is your dream vacation destination?

Fashion Trends that I will NOT be following in 2016

I don’t see myself as the biggest fashionista around.  But every now and then I get stuck in a few trends…Remember those horrible Spice Girl shoes back in the 90’s?  Guilty!!

I think it is safe to say that most trends come and go.  Some however comes back as “vintage” or “RETRO”.  Today I will list trends that I will NOT be following this year.  And lets just hope they don’t resurface in future either.

Sandals with Socks.

Beautiful sandals getting spoiled by socks.  In my opinion socks are for closed shoes.  End of discussion.

Colorful fur coats.

Lets be clear.  I am against wearing fur.  Even if it is fake fur.  I don’t want a coat made out of a fox or a wolf.  I also don’t want to wear a pink fox or a purple wolf.  Wearing colorful fur is just stupid.

Wearing pajamas out in public.

OK so thanks to Selena Gomez, who was too lazy to change out of her pajamas into everyday clothing.  We are now stuck with this trend.  I don’t buy ridiculously expensive pajamas that could “double as work-wear” so this for me is a no go zone.

Bubble Nails.

How do you even manage to do anything in these?  Also how to you get them off without ruining you own nails for life when you finally decide the trend is “not so great”?

Glitter roots.

This looks to me like you have sparkly dandruff.  So unless you actually have dandruff, and want to use this “creative idea” to hide them.  Just don’t do it.  This advice coming from a self-confessed glitter addict.   JUST A SPRINKLE OF GLITTER.  (I have linked a previous post explaining my glitter addiction.)

Colorful Armpit Hair.

First you decide to grow your armpit hair, then decide to color code to your amazing blue hair.  I find this gross and unhygienic.

Would you consider following any of these?

What not to say to an infertile couple

A few months ago I read a book called Making Babies the Hard Way – by Caroline Gallup. And in one section of the book she discusses a topic of what not to say to an infertile couple.  This section of her book was so spot on that it inspired me to write a post about all the annoying things people have told us, and this is exactly how I feel about your comments.

Don’t tell me to relax: Comments such as “just relax” create even more stress. You make me feel like I am doing something wrong.  Please understand that my son is 14 years old.  I am 32 and my husband in his 40’s.  I’m pretty sure if things were going to happen by just relaxing they would have by now.

Don’t say there are worse things that could happen: Who judges on what is the”worst” thing that could happen to someone? Different people react to different life experiences in different ways.

Don’t say at least you have one child, be grateful:  This is the most hurtful thing people can say to me.  Yes I already have a son from a previous relationship. And trust me I feel guilty every day for “longing” for another child.  But please take in consideration my husband who has not had this experience before.  He is being stripped by the privilege of seeing his first and maybe only biological child come into this life.  Also think about my husbands parents who also have the dream of having a grandchild.  Also my son who wants a little brother or sister and can not have one, and you are not the person who has to explain to him why he can’t get to be a big brother.

Don’t ask why we are not trying IVF: Because most Medical Aids do not cover IVF treatment, many are unable to pay for the out-of-pocket expenses. Infertility stress is physical, emotional, and financial.

Don’t say, “You’re young, you have plenty of time to get pregnant.”: Before you choose to give pointless advice, know the facts. It’s recommended that women under 35 see a fertility specialist after being unable to conceive for one year.  We have been trying for 3 years.

Don’t gossip about your friend’s condition: Infertility is a very sensitive matter, which is why you should respect your friend’s privacy.

Don’t complain about your pregnancy: This is a big NO-NO for me.  One of the hardest things for me is to be around other women who are pregnant. Seeing your belly grow is a constant reminder of what I can not have. Your complaining makes it even harder for me, and I might just snap.   Trust me when I say I will take all of the morning sickness, aches, pains, swollen parts and mood swings in a heartbeat.

Don’t ask whose “fault” it is: Just don’t.

I’ll give you my kids for a day: you’ll soon change your mind: You are honestly making it worse.  And if you have any idea how much I want what you have you will think twice about saying this to me, besides I might just “take you up on your offer”, and take your kids.

Please always remember, an infertility diagnosis can cause feelings of shame, depression and isolation. People with infertility often blame themselves for their diagnosis. Be aware and sensitive to what their needs may be, and choose your words wisely.
